The Commonwealth has hailed Bangladesh’s 13th National Parliament Election and the concurrent constitutional Referendum, held on Thursday, as a "unique example" on the global stage.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the international organization described the event as the largest democratic exercise conducted worldwide in 2026.

With over 127 million registered voters and 2,026 candidates—including 78 women—contesting for seats, the Commonwealth lauded the scale and execution of the polls.

The observer mission, led by former Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, emphasized that the inclusion of a national referendum alongside the parliamentary vote reflected a significant commitment to democratic reform and transparency.

The organization noted that the peaceful participation of such a massive electorate serves as a remarkable undertaking, setting a benchmark for democratic processes within the Commonwealth and beyond.
