The newly elected Members of Parliament from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami officially took their oaths of office on Tuesday afternoon, reversing an earlier stance that had left their participation in doubt.

The swearing-in ceremony commenced shortly before 12:30 pm in the oath room of the National Parliament building, beginning with a recitation from the Holy Quran.

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath to the Jamaat lawmakers, marking their formal entry into the 13th Parliament.

The decision followed a morning of high-stakes political posturing. Earlier in the day, Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer, Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, had suggested to the media that the party's MPs might abstain from the ceremony.

He indicated that their participation was contingent on whether the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) elected members joined the Constitution Reform Council, stating that if the BNP lawmakers did not take that specific oath, Jamaat would follow suit.

Despite this initial reservation, Taher confirmed they would still attend the scheduled proceedings.

Ultimately, the Jamaat representatives moved forward with the ceremony at the appointed time, aligning themselves with the day's legislative transitions at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
