Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury was sworn in as a permanent judge of the High Court Division on Thursday.
Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury administered the oath of office to Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury at the Supreme Court Judges' Lounge at 11 am, in the presence of judges from both divisions of the Supreme Court alongside senior apex court administrative officials.
The President appointed Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury, previously serving as an Additional Judge of the High Court Division, to the permanent position on September 21.
According to an official gazette notification released by the Law and Justice Division on that date, "The appointment was made by the President in consultation with the Chief Justice under Article 95 of the Constitution."
Born on March 1, 1981, Justice Chowdhury earned his LL.B. (Hons) from the University of Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom, completed a Post Graduate Diploma at the College of Law of England and Wales in the United Kingdom, and obtained Certificates in Laws from Holborn College in the United Kingdom.
He gained enrollment as an advocate of the district court in 2005, the High Court Division in 2007, and the Appellate Division in 2018.
Prior to his elevation to a permanent judge, Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury was appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court on October 8, 2024.
