The government has appointed Md Ali Hossain Fakir as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), promoting him to the top post of the country’s police force.

A formal notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday confirmed his appointment, which takes effect immediately.

Md. Ali Hossain Fakir succeeds Baharul Alam, who served as the 31st IGP. Prior to this landmark promotion, Fakir served as the Additional Inspector General of Police and Chief of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN).

A seasoned officer of the 15th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Police cadre, Fakir hails from Bagerhat district.

His career has been marked by several high-profile roles where he earned a reputation for leadership and professional competence.

His appointment comes at a pivotal time as the new administration focuses on strengthening law and order and enhancing accountability within law enforcement agencies.

The Ministry’s notification, signed by order of the President, formalizes the transition in the police high command following a period of administrative reshuffling under the newly elected government.
