Bangladesh has issued a forceful condemnation of Israel's recent land legislation aimed at annexing occupied Palestinian territories, with Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Addressing the Open-Ended OIC Executive Committee Meeting in Jeddah on Friday, Dr. Rahman reaffirmed Bangladesh’s unwavering support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The Foreign Minister unequivocally denounced the new Israeli legislation concerning land purchases, asserting that it "seeks to unlawfully annex the occupied Palestinian territory."
Dr. Rahman further warned that the move is "designed to alter the legal and demographic character of Palestinian lands, including Al Quds Al Sharif."
Expressing deep concern over Israel's decision to open land registries in the West Bank to public scrutiny, the Minister noted that such steps "expose Palestinian landowners to intimidation and harassment."
He categorized these actions as a "clear breach of relevant international law" that "undermine the foundations of a just and lasting social order."
During his address, Dr. Rahman outlined the Bangladesh government’s firm stance on the conflict, stating:
"The establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state under the two-State solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, remains the only sustainable solution to the protracted crisis."
He rejected the land-related legislation in its entirety and demanded the "protection of the land rights of the Palestinian people." Beyond territorial concerns, he urged for a "permanent ceasefire in Gaza" and "unconditional and unhindered access for international aid workers" to reach civilians in the Strip.
The meeting also served as a diplomatic debut for the newly elected democratic government of Bangladesh. Conveying Ramadan greetings from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Dr. Rahman noted that the administration "looks forward to working closely with OIC member states."
On the sidelines of the summit, the Foreign Minister engaged in high-level bilateral talks with counterparts from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Palestine, and Gambia.
The leaders congratulated Bangladesh on its successful general elections and the victory of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Many dignitaries also pledged their support for Bangladesh’s candidature for the Presidency of the 81st UN General Assembly.
