A five-member delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) held a high-level meeting this morning with the visiting US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs S. Paul Kapur.

The discussion, hosted at the US Ambassador's residence in Gulshan, focused on the evolving diplomatic and economic landscape following the inauguration of the new government in Dhaka.

The BNP delegation was led by Standing Committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan and included Barrister Nawshad Zamir, Mahbubur Rahman, Nayab Yusuf and Nipun Roy Chowdhury.

Addressing reporters after the session, Dr. Moyeen Khan emphasized the longstanding cooperation between the two nations.

"The new government assumed office, so they (US) will naturally come here to discuss what is happening in Bangladesh, what are our policies, what are our future policies and our mutual relations with different countries, especially with the United States," he stated.

When asked about specific bilateral agreements, Dr. Moyeen Khan clarified that the US is coordinating directly with the government on those matters.

He noted that the primary focus of today's (Thursday) dialogue was the broader relationship between the citizens of both countries and the government’s overarching foreign policy.

"The issues we discussed today are mainly the mutual relations between the people of the two countries and the policies of the government," he said, adding that the talks spanned diplomatic, foreign, and economic ties.

Assistant Secretary Paul Kapur arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday for a two-day visit aimed at "strengthening strategic ties" and exploring new opportunities for collaboration.

This meeting is seen as a key step in the US government’s engagement with the newly elected leadership and major political stakeholders in Bangladesh.
