Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury announced on Thursday that electricity from the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is expected to be integrated into the national grid on a trial basis between June and July this year.

Speaking to reporters following a high-level meeting with Russian Ambassador Alexander Khozin at the Planning Commission, the Minister provided a definitive timeline for the project's milestones, stating that fuel loading is scheduled to commence on April 7.

The Minister expressed optimism regarding the plant's contribution to the country’s power supply, noting that one unit of the project is projected to generate approximately 1,200 megawatts of electricity at full capacity by December 2026.

Underscoring the government's aggressive priority to ensure energy security, he emphasized the critical need to transition from construction to the production phase to alleviate the ongoing energy crisis.

"The administration is committed to achieving stability through every available channel to meet the nation's energy requirements," he remarked.

The meeting also touched upon the broader energy landscape and international relations.

When asked about diplomatic and economic engagements with the United States, Minister Chowdhury remained cautious, stating that the government is carefully observing developments in that area.

Furthermore, he addressed the role of the private sector, suggesting a multifaceted national strategy that coordinates large-scale, state-led nuclear projects with the continued participation of private enterprises to resolve Bangladesh's energy challenges.
