Bangladesh's Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hassan Mahmood reached Tokyo to participate in the prestigious Indo-Pacific Energy Security Ministerial and Business Forum.

The two-day event, held from March 14–15, serves as a high-level platform for government and industry leaders to discuss the future of energy security, resilient supply chains, and infrastructure investment across the region.

The forum is co-hosted by the United States National Energy Dominance Council (NEDC) and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

Key hosts include USSecretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, and Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Akazawa Ryosei.

Bangladesh joins energy ministers and senior delegates from a broad range of Indo-Pacific nations, including Australia, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Discussions during the ministerial sessions are expected to center on ensuring an abundant, reliable, and affordable energy supply for the region.

Amidst the ongoing global energy market volatility—exacerbated by the Middle East crisis—the forum aims to foster partnerships that can secure critical energy exports and stabilize regional markets.

Minister Mahmood is scheduled to hold several high-profile bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the event, specifically targeting delegations from the US, Japan, and Brunei to explore collaborative energy solutions.

In addition to governmental dialogue, the Minister will meet with private sector executives to discuss investment opportunities within Bangladesh’s energy landscape.

These interactions aim to unlock new avenues for cooperation in infrastructure development and energy technology, aligning with the government's goal to modernize the national grid and ensure long-term energy sustainability.
