The US State of Georgia has officially honored Bangladesh for its extraordinary contributions to United Nations peacekeeping operations worldwide.

In a ceremony held at the State Senate on Tuesday, a formal resolution was presented to the Chief of Army Staff, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, recognizing the professionalism and dedication of Bangladeshi blue helmets.

The resolution, which received bipartisan support from the Georgia State Senate, was handed over by Governor Brian P. Kemp.

The legislative move praises Bangladesh’s significant global role in maintaining peace and security in conflict zones across the globe.

State Senator Sheikh Rahman, a prominent figure in the Georgia legislature, spearheaded the initiative to honor the South Asian nation’s military service.

Prior to the presentation, General Waker-Uz-Zaman held a bilateral meeting with Governor Kemp.

The two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, focusing on strengthening military cooperation and building strategic ties between the Georgia National Guard and the Bangladesh Armed Forces.

The Army Chief has been on an official visit to the United States since March 28, 2026, as part of a broader mission to enhance defense diplomacy and international collaboration.

According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release, this state-level recognition underscores the high esteem in which Bangladeshi peacekeepers are held by the international community and its allies.
