Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday characterized a recent UN Security Council report regarding Al-Qaeda's efforts to set up cells in Bangladesh as speculative, clarifying that the administration is taking no measures based on conjecture.

"I have heard about it, but I have not read it," the minister informed journalists after attending a meeting at the Finance Ministry in the Secretariat regarding the Bangladesh Judicial Service Pay Commission, 2025 report review.

The Security Council's report previously raised alarms over attempts by Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) to "exploit Bangladesh" to expand its organizational presence.

Elaborating on media coverage of the document, Ahmed noted, "As far as I have heard from newspaper reports, they have made an assumption that something like this could happen. We are not taking any steps based on an assumption-based report."

When asked for further details on the findings, he reiterated that he could not offer a formal evaluation prior to reviewing the full document.
"There may be some observations in the report. I cannot say anything without seeing it," he explained.

Additionally, responding to press queries concerning rumors that he might be assigned responsibility for another ministry, the Home Minister acknowledged the speculation, stating, "I have heard the rumour."
