The Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) has officially issued the commissioning license for fuel loading at the first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP).

This crucial regulatory approval follows comprehensive assessments and reviews conducted by both national and international regulatory bodies.

In a formal ceremony held on Thursday, BAERA Chairman Mahmudul Hasan handed over the license to Dr. M. Moinul Islam, Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission.

The event was attended by senior officials from the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Construction Project and Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL).

The issuance of this license marks a groundbreaking milestone for Bangladesh’s power sector.

With the commencement of fuel loading, the country moves significantly closer to the reality of nuclear power generation.

According to official plans, the formal inauguration of fuel loading for Unit-1 is expected to take place in the final week of April.

Once fuel loading begins, electricity from the first unit is projected to be connected to the national grid within approximately three months.

Following a series of rigorous tests and phased capacity-building activities, the government aims to transmit electricity at the unit's full capacity by December 2026.

This progress at the RNPP is expected to play a transformative role in ensuring Bangladesh’s long-term energy security and fostering sustainable power generation.
