Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel have apprehended another FIR-named accused in connection with the mob killing of self-proclaimed 'Pir' Abdur Rahman, also known as Shamim Reza and Jahangir, in Daulatpur upazila.

The arrestee, identified as 32-year-old Rajib Mistry, was captured during a joint operation by RAB-5 Rajshahi and RAB-12 Kushtia in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi at approximately 11 pm on Thursday.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police Sudipta Sarkar, Company Commander of RAB-12 Kushtia camp, Rajib is the son of Gazi Mistry of West South Philipnagar and is listed as the number three accused in the case.

Following his arrest, Rajib Mistry was sent to jail by a court on Friday.

Arifur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge of Daulatpur Police Station, confirmed that a total of four individuals have been arrested in the case so far, while "drives to apprehend others are continuing."

The previously arrested suspects include Biplob Hossain, 26, Alif Islam, 23, and a 16-year-old Class X student, Alamgir Hossain.

The brutal incident occurred on April 11, when 65-year-old Shamim Reza was beaten and hacked to death at his shrine, "Shamim Baba’s Darbar Sharif," located in Philipnagar union.

Locals reported that the attack was triggered by the resurfacing of a video from 2023, which led to allegations of blasphemy.
Three of the victim's followers were also injured during the mob violence.

In response to the killing, the victim’s brother, Fazlur Rahman, filed a case on April 13 with the Daulatpur Police Station.

The First Information Report (FIR) named four specific individuals, including Rajib Mistry, and cited an additional 180 to 200 unidentified persons involved in the attack.
