A court in the capital on Sunday fixed September 29 for submitting the investigation findings in a lawsuit filed regarding the homicide of renowned film icon Salman Shah.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana issued the directive after the inquiry official was unable to present the report on this day.
The maternal uncle of Salman Shah, Mohammad Alamgir—widely recognized as Alamgir Kumkum—lodged the complaint on October 21, 2025, accusing 11 individuals, which included the actor's spouse Samira Haque, at the capital's Ramna Police Station invoking sections 302 and 34 of the Penal Code.
The remaining defendants comprise Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Samira's mother Latifa Haque Lusi, Don, David, Zaved, Faruk, Ruby, A Sattar, Saju, and Rijvi Ahmed Farhad.
Previously, on October 20, 2025, Dhaka's 6th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque directed the officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station to treat the legal action filed over the passing of Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar (Emon), universally known as Salman Shah, as a murder case and present an inquiry report thereon.
The judicial body noted in its ruling that the accidental death case was officially canceled and annulled through an order issued on October 31, 2021.
Based on the case details, on September 6, 1996, Salman Shah's mother Nilufar Zaman Chowdhury (Neela Chowdhury), his father—the late Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury—and their younger sibling Shahraan Shah visited the actor's dwelling at New Eskaton to see him.
Upon reaching Salman's Eskaton apartment, his wife Samira along with a domestic worker named Abul stated that Salman was resting.
At that juncture, movie producer Siddique had also arrived to visit him. Learning that Salman was slumbering, his parents informed Samira that they would drop by to see him during their journey to Sylhet.
Later that same day, production manager Selim contacted Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury via telephone, stating that an incident had occurred involving Salman and pressing them to rush to his residence instantly.
When Neela, her spouse, and their younger offspring arrived at the property, they discovered Salman resting motionless inside his sleeping quarters, while several unidentified women were applying oil to his palms and feet. Inside an alternate chamber, Samira's relative Ruby—who operated the adjacent Mayfair Beauty Parlour—was seated.
At that instant, Salman's mother cried out and implored them to convey her son to the medical facility without delay. An acquaintance of Samira reportedly yelled at Salman's mother, declaring, "You get out of my house."
Salman's parents swiftly transported him toward Holy Family Hospital, where they observed rope marks across his neck alongside his complexion and limbs turning bluish.
His mother insisted on transferring him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where physicians pronounced Salman Shah deceased upon arrival, noting that he had passed away some time prior.
In the wake of the event, Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury initially lodged an unnatural death case. The subsequent year, on July 24, 1997, Salman Shah's father submitted a petition to the court, introducing homicide accusations and requesting registration of the matter under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
"As Salman's father -- my brother-in-law -- has passed away, I am pursuing the case on behalf of my sister under the power of attorney vested in me," the complainant remarked.
