The newly elected members of parliament for the reserved women seats of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad are scheduled to take their oath tomorrow (on Sunday).
According to the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, the oath-taking ceremony will be held at 9 pm in the oath room located at the East Block, Level-1 of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
This ceremony follows the Election Commission’s (EC) publication of a gazette notification on April 30, which officially announced the names of 49 members of parliament elected unopposed to these reserved seats.
The gazette reveals that the seats were allocated among political parties and alliances based on their representation.
Consequently, 36 MPs were elected from the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its alliance, 12 from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its alliance, and one woman MP was elected from a coalition formed by six independent MPs.
The elected members from the BNP-led alliance include,
Selima Rahman, Shirin Sultana, Rasheda Begum Hira, Rehana Akter Ranu, Newaz Halima Arli, Mst. Farida Yasmin, Bilkis Islam, Sakila Farzana, Helen Jerin Khan, Nilofar Chowdhury Moni, Nipun Roy Chowdhury, Jeba Amina Khan, Mahamuda Habiba, Mst. Sabira Sultana, Sansila Jebrin, Sanjida Islam, Sultana Ahmed, Fahmida Haque, Anna Minj, Subarna Sikdar, Shamima Ara Begum Swapna, Mosammat Shammi Akter, Ferdousi Ahmed, Bithika Binte Hossain, Mst. Suraiya Jerin, Mansura Akter, Joharat Adib Chowdhury, Momtaz Alo, Fahima Nasrin, Arifa Sultana, Mst. Sanjida Yasmin, Nadia Pathan Papon, Shaukat Ara Akter, Madhabi Marma, Selina Sultana and Rezeka Sultana.
Representing the Jamaat-led alliance are,
Nurunnisa Siddika, Marjia Begum, Sabikun Nahar, Mst. Najmun Nahar, Mahfuza Hannan, Sajeda Samad, Shamsunnahar Begum, Mardia Momtaz, Rokeya Begum, Mahamuda Alam Mitu, Tasmia Pradhan, and Mahbuba Hakim.
Sultana Jesmin was elected as the representative from the independent alliance.
In a related development, the Election Commission on Saturday declared the nomination paper of Nusrat Tabassum Jyoti valid.
She is a candidate from the Jamaat alliance and a leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP) vying for a reserved women seat in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
