Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, accompanied by his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman, visited the Banani Military Graveyard in the capital on Thursday morning to pay deep respects and offer prayers for the army officers martyred in the tragic 2009 BDR carnage.

The Premier and his wife arrived at the military cemetery around 9:15 am, following their attendance at the central Eid-ul-Azha congregation and a subsequent visit to Zia Uddyan.

Initially, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Dr. Zubaida Rahman visited the final resting place of her father, former Navy Chief Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan.

They offered special prayers and a solemn munajat (supplicatory prayer), seeking the eternal peace of his departed soul.

Following this, the Prime Minister and his wife proceeded to the section of the graveyard dedicated to the army officers who lost their lives during the BDR carnage.

Standing in front of the solemn memorial monument, they took part in a special mass prayer, seeking Almighty Allah's divine blessings and eternal peace for the souls of the fallen officers.

A high-profile government delegation was present alongside the Premier on the occasion, including Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Social Welfare Minister Prof. Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, and State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, among other dignitaries.

The brutal BDR carnage took place on February 25 and 26, 2009, resulting in the tragic deaths of 74 individuals.

Among the casualties were 57 brilliant army officers, including the then Director General of the border guard force, Major General Shakil Ahmed.

The vast majority of these martyred military officers were laid to rest with full state honors at the Banani Military Graveyard.
