The National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Monday issued a stern warning to jobseekers and their guardians against fraud rings that are collecting money by falsely promising employment in the Income Tax Department.

In an official press release, the apex revenue authority stated it had received reliable information that certain fraud syndicates operating in different parts of the country were actively attempting to deceive job applicants by claiming they could guarantee appointments in the Income Tax Department in exchange for financial transactions.

According to the revenue collection agency, the primary objective of these fraudsters is to exploit qualified candidates who would otherwise easily secure jobs through the regular, merit-based recruitment process.

The NBR explained that these criminal networks often deliberately mislead successful candidates into believing that their appointments were the direct result of bribes or financial transactions.

The NBR further noted that while some candidates who ultimately fail to secure jobs due to a lack of qualifications might receive partial or full refunds from the fraudsters, those who are genuinely selected through their own qualifications are highly likely to lose the money they paid to these criminal networks under false pretenses.

Assuring the public of the integrity of the hiring system, the revenue authority declared that the ongoing recruitment process for vacant posts within the Income Tax Department is being conducted with absolute transparency and institutional accountability in strict accordance with legal procedures.

The NBR clarified that eligible candidates are being selected through an impartial committee comprising representatives from the Ministry of Public Administration, the Internal Resources Division (IRD), the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC), and senior officials from the Income Tax Department itself.

In its statement, the authority requested citizens to immediately report any specific information regarding individuals or groups illegally collecting money in the name of securing jobs to the relevant Tax Commissioner’s Office or directly to the NBR’s Public Relations Officer.

The revenue board strongly reiterated that absolutely no financial payment or bribe is required to obtain employment within the department, emphasizing that all appointments will be made solely on the basis of merit and through the prescribed, lawful recruitment procedures.
