The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has released an urgent advisory alerting the public to scam artists falsely posing as diplomatic staff and soliciting payments for fake visa processing and consular assistance.

The warning was published via an official public advisory posted on the mission's official X handle on Tuesday, according to an accompanying press release.

Diplomatic officials noted that numerous reports have surfaced involving fraudsters reaching out to individuals through phone calls, WhatsApp, social media networks, and email platforms, falsely claiming affiliation with the mission to promise guaranteed visa approvals or service facilitation in exchange for fees.

Dismantling these claims, the advisory explicitly stated, "No official of the High Commission will ever contact you by phone, WhatsApp, social media, or email to offer a visa or solicit money," while reiterating that every visa application is processed exclusively through standardized official protocols.

The Indian mission strongly urged citizens to refrain from transferring funds or disclosing sensitive personal and financial details if targeted by such fraudulent solicitations.

To combat these illegal activities, the High Commission requested anyone approached by scammers to report the details immediately by emailing the perpetrator's contact details, chat screenshots and relevant evidence to [email protected].

Furthermore, the diplomatic mission appealed to the public to stay alert and assist in spreading awareness to safeguard others from falling prey to financial fraud.
