Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday reviewed the overall progress of measures taken to ease traffic congestion in the capital and modernize the city’s traffic management system.

The high-level review meeting was held in the morning at the Public Administration Room of the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat, according to the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon.

During the session, the Prime Minister sought comprehensive updates on the ongoing implementation of traffic management initiatives, with a particular focus on the deployment of AI-powered traffic cameras across the capital.

“The Prime Minister wanted to know how many AI cameras have already been installed and when the remaining ones will be set up,” Rumon said, highlighting the government's push for technology-driven oversight on the roads.

In addition to digital monitoring, the meeting focused extensively on the removal of old and unfit vehicles from Dhaka’s roads to clear gridlocks and improve safety.

The Prime Minister provided a number of direct instructions on the matter, with Rumon noting that Tarique Rahman specifically instructed the authorities concerned to expedite the installation of AI cameras as part of the broader efforts to modernize the capital’s traffic management system.

This session marked the Prime Minister’s third dedicated meeting focusing exclusively on traffic congestion and traffic management solutions in Dhaka.

The strategy meeting brought together top government officials, including Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam, State Minister Habibur Rashid Habib, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam, and Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan.

Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, Home Secretary Monjur Morshed Chowdhury and several other senior officials from the relevant ministries were also in attendance to coordinate the enforcement and technical rollout.
