Bangladesh and Japan held high-level discussions on Monday to explore the expansion of bilateral defense and military cooperation, as Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi led a three-member delegation to a courtesy meeting with the Prime Minister's Defence Adviser, Brigadier General (retd) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam.

The meeting, held at the adviser's office within the Armed Forces Division (AFD) at Dhaka Cantonment, focused on issues of mutual interest and strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations, according to a release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate.

A significant portion of the talks was dedicated to Japan’s potential technological assistance in the modernization of the Bangladesh Armed Forces and the pursuit of the country's "Forces Goal."

The ISPR reported that both parties reached an agreement to enhance training opportunities for military personnel from both nations, increase the frequency of regular military delegation exchanges, and bolster professional and technical capacity-building initiatives.

Furthermore, the two sides actively explored new avenues for cooperation regarding the exchange of modern defense equipment and technologies.

This engagement is expected to further fortify the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Japan while deepening long-term strategic and mutually beneficial cooperation between their respective armed forces.
