Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad on Friday expressed his profound condolences over the tragic demise of the Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and strongly condemned his brutal killing.

Leading a high-level Bangladesh delegation, the Speaker conveyed the deep solidarity of both the government and the people of Bangladesh with the government and the brotherly people of Iran during this period of national mourning.

The commitments were made during a formal meeting held in Tehran between Speaker Hafiz Uddin and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaker Ghalibaf warmly welcomed the Bangladesh delegation on the solemn occasion of the late Supreme Leader's state funeral, while highlighting the centuries-old friendship, shared cultural heritage, and deep people-to-people ties that bind Iran and Bangladesh together.

During the bilateral discussions, Speaker Hafiz Uddin highly appreciated Speaker Ghalibaf's constructive role in facilitating the recent peace memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States.

He expressed his optimism that the agreement will usher in lasting peace, stability, and prosperity for the Iranian people as well as the wider region.

Furthermore, he reaffirmed Bangladesh's steadfast support for the ongoing peace process, expressing hope that all involved parties will build on this current momentum to achieve a durable resolution of outstanding issues strictly through dialogue and diplomacy.

Before concluding the meeting, the Speaker extended a formal invitation to Ghalibaf to pay an official visit to Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin had arrived in the Iranian capital on Thursday to head the national delegation. Upon their initial arrival at the airport, the Bangladeshi representatives were warmly received by Hamid Reza Haji Babaei, the Deputy Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran.
