Aiming to improve inland waterway connectivity in the northern region, expand passenger services, and develop port-based infrastructure, the government has officially designated two new river ports along the banks of the Jamuna River.

The new facilities—identified as the Sariakandi River Port in the Bogura district and the Dhunat River Port situated in the Bogura-Sirajganj region—were formally established through separate official gazette notifications.

This development was disclosed in two distinct administrative orders issued on July 8 by the Ministry of Shipping.
