Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that the government will compile an unbiased registry of major drug traffickers to bolster anti-narcotics enforcement, halt the expansion of illegal substances, and curb smuggling across the country.

Speaking to media members following a district-level session on law enforcement and narcotics control at the Hill Down Circuit House in Cox's Bazar on Thursday, the minister detailed the administration's strategic framework.

"We will prepare the list of top drug traffickers impartially," Salahuddin Ahmed stated.

"The task force committee will compile a neutral list of drug smugglers and traders. Further steps will be taken based on that list."

To block smuggling corridors, the government has decided to set up bases along primary trafficking channels, operating either through joint security drives or in coordination with regional law enforcement bodies.

Highlighting the diversity of smuggling channels, Salahuddin Ahmed noted, "Besides land routes, drugs are being smuggled through rivers and sea routes. Instructions have been given to intensify patrols by the Bangladesh Navy and the Coast Guard on those routes."

In an effort to track illegal trafficking networks, authorities have resolved to enforce a mandatory registration process for fishermen as well as fishing vessels operating out of Ukhiya and Teknaf.

Additionally, to address abduction risks around terrain-heavy border locations, proposals have been submitted to Bangladesh Army authorities requesting the creation of two military camps in Teknaf, with deliberations currently in progress.

The high-level conference was presided over by Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner Md. A. Mannan. Among the attendees were Ukhiya-Teknaf lawmaker Shahjahan Chowdhury, Maheshkhali-Kutubdia lawmaker Alomgir Mohammad Mahfuz Ullah Farid, and reserved seat lawmaker Shamima Ara Swapna.

Administrative and security officials present included Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Md. Mizanur Rahman, Department of Narcotics Control Director General Hasan Maruf, Cox's Bazar Development Authority Chairman Jasim Uddin, Zila Parishad Administrator ATM Nurul Bashir Chowdhury, and Cox's Bazar Superintendent of Police ANM Sajedur Rahman.

The military and paramilitary leadership was represented by BGB Ramu Sector Commander Colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed, Cox's Bazar 34 BGB Commander SM Khairul Alam, RAB-15 Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Mostafizur Rahman, 14 Armed Police Battalion Commanding Officer Additional DIG Siraj Amin, and 8 APBn Commanding Officer Additional DIG Riaz Uddin, alongside various senior government representatives, political leaders, and social organization delegates.

During his visit to the region, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed also toured the headquarters of the Cox's Bazar Development Authority, where he formally launched the organization's "Flat Development Project-1".

Furthermore, he laid the foundation stone for the upcoming hospital building at Cox's Bazar Medical College.
