Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and cricketer Shakib Al Hasan will receive complete state security should they return to Bangladesh to undergo the judicial process, Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman said on Tuesday.

The adviser delivered the remarks during a press briefing held at the conference room of the Press Information Department (PID) at the Secretariat, where he outlined progress on various government initiatives and fielded questions regarding high-profile legal cases.

Addressing recent statements made by cricketer Shakib Al Hasan during a Reuters interview—wherein the athlete expressed a desire to return home to face pending legal charges provided his safety was guaranteed—Dr. Zahed dismissed concerns over safety while criticizing Shakib's political affiliations.

Describing the cricketer as a “rotten and decayed person,” the adviser remarked, “He may be a good player, but he is a rotten and decayed person. A person who aligned himself with Hasina and is still aligned with her; even after the 5th, statements from him came.”

Dr. Zahed rejected the idea that the former national cricket captain faces physical danger upon arrival, characterizing Shakib's safety demand as a tactic to exert pressure on the administration.

“He will come to Bangladesh to face the cases, the law and the trial. If he lands at the airport, will people mob him and do something to him? Does he think that? Do any of us think that? No way,” the adviser stated, adding, “He will come and under the security provided to him, face whatever allegations he has and comply with all the legal matters involved. If he comes accepting all that, I see no problem.”

Furthermore, the information adviser categorized such public demands and statements as deliberate attempts to undermine the interim administration's reputation.

“Each of these statements is actually propaganda against our government,” he asserted, maintaining that the state remains fully capable of upholding law and order while ensuring due process for all returning figures facing trial.
