Charge Hearing against Sheikh Hasina and 33 Others Deferred to Sept 24

A judicial tribunal here on Tuesday postponed until September 24 the hearing concerning formal charge framing in a lawsuit lodged against deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina alongside 33 co-accused over the purported killing of transport worker Hossain throughout the 2024 July-August Mass Uprising.

The current date had been designated for conducting proceedings on the issue, yet correctional officials failed to present detained defendant Zunaid Ahmed Palak before the bench for the session.

Granting an adjournment petition submitted by state prosecutors, Judge Robiul Alam of the Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 designated the fresh schedule for the hearing.

Pursuant to the judicial records, Md Hossain sustained fatal gunshot wounds within the Mohammadpur Chand Udyan locality on July 19, 2024, whilst journeying home after parking his cargo vehicle in the Gabtoli sector, subsequently succumbing to his trauma.

The victim's mother, Rina Begum, instituted the case on August 31, 2024, at the Mohammadpur Police Station, following which law enforcement authorities submitted a charge sheet on November 23, 2025, implicating 34 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Hasan Mahmud, and Jahangir Kabir Nanak.

Following the incident, Mariam's father, SM Masum Billah, lodged a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on the morning of September 21, naming Gazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Maksuda Islam, and Mariam's maternal uncle Obaidur Rahman as accused parties for allegedly abetting the suicide.
