The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is anticipated to pronounce its judgment regarding the genocide case involving the Rohingya in Myanmar during October 2026, according to Dawda A. Jallow, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice for Gambia.

He shared this projected schedule during a discussion with Bangladesh's State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Humaiun Kobir, held on the sidelines of the 23rd OIC Extraordinary Council of Foreign Ministers summit in Jeddah on Thursday.

He emphasized that the ruling on accountability for the brutality inflicted upon the Rohingya population will serve a pivotal function in identifying a lasting resolution to the ongoing crisis.

The State Minister commended Gambia's proactive stance in seeking justice for the Rohingya at the ICJ.

He underscored the significance of maintaining tight collaboration between Bangladesh and Gambia—especially during the Bangladeshi Foreign Minister's tenure as President of the United Nations General Assembly—to ensure the Rohingya emergency remains prominent on the international stage and to propel initiatives toward a comprehensive, enduring fix, encompassing the secure, honorable, and voluntary repatriation of the Rohingya back to Myanmar.
