The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) announced the postponement of its Ordinary General Meeting and the accompanying Managing Board election, which had been slated for September 17, 2026, alongside the dissolution of the three-member Election Commission tasked with overseeing the vote.
These determinations were promulgated on Thursday via two distinct notifications bearing the signature of BDRCS Chairman Barrister Md. Abdus Salam, as detailed in an official press statement disseminated by the organization on Sunday.
Management concluded that an extended timeframe is essential to guarantee complete transparency, inclusive representation, and broad institutional credibility, ensuring that the electoral framework remains strictly aligned with Presidential Order 26 of 1973, internal BDRCS electoral bylaws, and applicable regulatory standards.
A parallel notice confirmed that the election panel constituted on August 23, 2026, has been disbanded following the necessary suspension of the September 17 electoral schedule to preserve procedural integrity.
The dissolved commission was headed by Farhad Ahammad Khan in the capacity of Chief Election Commissioner, supported by Mushfiq Ahammad and Dr. Md. Emdadul Haque serving as Election Commissioners.
“In order to uphold the integrity, credibility, and legitimacy of the electoral process, the upcoming Managing Board election will be held at a convenient time in the future,” stated BDRCS Chairman Barrister Md. Abdus Salam.
Revised scheduling details and subsequent procedural steps will be announced publicly once consultations with all principal stakeholders are concluded.
The Chairman expressed confidence that this strategic delay will reinforce the organization's enduring welfare, institutional standing, structural stability, and democratic traditions.
