The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has allocated BDT 9.49 crore from the 2026-27 fiscal year budget to cover immediate expenses related to the burial, cremation and transportation of the mortal remains of freedom fighters.
The funding commitment was formally announced in an official order released by the ministry's budget division on September 29, with the financial resources being disbursed directly to Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) nationwide.
As detailed in the executive order, the sum will be drawn from an overall BDT 18 crore budget earmarked for burial grants under the honorarium allowance scheme for wounded and veteran freedom fighters, integrated within the special operational budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
District and upazila administrative authorities are directed to draw these sanctioned funds through their local accounting entities.
Furthermore, the Chief Accounts and Finance Officer has been formally requested to transmit the requisite authorization for the full allocation to the respective accounts offices.
The official directive specifies that the released capital will be balanced against the targeted burial grant provisions set in the current fiscal year's budgetary allocations.
Local administration executives, including DCs and UNOs, will draw the capital from their corresponding district or upazila treasuries by submitting standardized bills.
Under the stringent usage terms attached to the distribution, the financial provisions are strictly restricted to the cremation, burial, and transportation expenses of freedom fighters' bodies and cannot be diverted to any alternative purpose.
Disbursing authorities must adhere rigidly to all applicable financial regulations and government statutory guidelines, with managing officials bearing direct accountability for any fiscal procedural irregularities.
The order further stipulates that any unexpended balance remaining beyond June 30, 2027, must be promptly remitted back to the designated government treasury account, accompanied by a formal reporting notice to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.
Deputy Secretary (Budget) at the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, Dr. Md. Asaduzzaman, endorsed the order, which directs administrative heads across all 64 districts alongside all UNOs to implement immediate compliance measures.
