Dhaka voiced a resolute and unreserved denunciation on Sunday regarding Saturday’s lethal Houthi strike targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which claimed 12 lives—among them two Bangladeshi nationals—and left upwards of 300 individuals wounded, with multiple victims in dire condition.
The Bangladeshi diplomatic mission based in Riyadh remains in active communication with Saudi officials to establish precise details regarding the deceased and injured Bangladeshis and to coordinate essential relief for affected individuals.
Offering its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the grieving families, particularly those of the Bangladeshi victims, Bangladesh expressed hopes for the rapid and complete recovery of all who sustained injuries.
Underlining the severity of the incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserted in an official release, "Attacks endangering civilian lives and targeting civilian infrastructure are unacceptable and must cease immediately."
In the wake of the assault, Bangladesh reaffirmed its unwavering solidarity with the government and the brotherly populace of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Furthermore, to safeguard regional peace, security, and stability, Bangladesh appealed for an immediate halt to hostilities, the preservation of non-combatants and public infrastructure, and a peaceful resolution to the escalating conflict through diplomatic engagement and dialogue.
According to statements from Saudi civil aviation authorities on Sunday, the missile strike on Riyadh’s key aviation hub resulted in 12 fatalities, including the two Bangladeshi citizens, alongside more than 300 casualties, several of whom are battling critical injuries.
Reports from AP indicate that the Saudi-led military coalition attributed the strike to Houthi insurgents operating out of neighboring Yemen, labeling the assault a “fully-fledged war crime” while pledging a resolute retaliation.
The deceased also comprised four Saudi citizens, a Palestinian, an American citizen, an Egyptian, a Jordanian, a Syrian, and a Sudanese national.
