Mourning day Monday for Chawkbazar fire incident

The government has decided to observe one-day state mourning tomorrow (Monday) in memory of the victims of the devastating Chawkbazar fire in the capital on Wednesday. The information came through a notice sent from office the Cabinet Secretary on Sunday.

Dr. Md. Shamsul Arefin, Secretary (coordination and reformation) of the cabinet division sent the notice following order of the President.

The notice said, the one day mourning would be observed on February 25 (Monday) for praying for the salvation of the departed souls and to extend condolences to the families of the fire victims of February 20 at Churihatta area of Chawkbazar in old Dhaka.

The devastating fire at Chawkbazar broke out at around 10 pm on Wednesday. Later 37 units of fire service took the fire under control at around 3:15 am.

67 people were killed in Chawkbazar fire and 42 people were also injured. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed for proper treatment for the patients admitted in hospital.
