Three Bangladesh Air Force personnel were killed when a duty pickup truck lost control and plunged from the second-floor flyover of the Third Terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital. Police reported that four others were injured in the incident. According to an airport accident report, the crash occurred at around 10:15 PM on Monday (August 31). The report stated that the casualties were transported to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH). The deceased were identified as Warrant Officer Mahmud, Corporal Moniruzzaman, and Lance Corporal Zubaidul. Among the injured, Corporal Mahbub and LAC Ahad sustained serious injuries, while Senior Officer Abul Khayer suffered minor injuries, according to police records. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director Lieutenant Colonel Sami-Ud-Dowla Chowdhury confirmed that the three deceased were Air Force members and noted that several others were injured. Their detailed identities will be released on Tuesday. Over the past six and a half years, 15,712 lives have been lost on Bangladeshi roads due to motorcycle accidents, according to data from the Road Safety Foundation. Between 2020 and July of this year, the organization recorded a total of 16,065 motorcycle accidents, which also left 14,143 people injured. A significant portion of those killed are adolescents and young adults, with over half of the injured falling between the ages of 13 and 35. These findings were released in a report issued by the Road Safety Foundation on Saturday (August 8). The organization noted that marketing language and promotional styling from motorcycle manufacturing and marketing companies are fueling high-speed aspirations and attracting adolescents to reckless riding.
