Government employees have stepped back from their previously scheduled announcement of fresh protest programs aimed at demanding the implementation of the 9th National Pay Scale.
The decision to postpone the programs was made as a mark of respect following the death of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Shahid Sharif Osman Hadi, and in light of the current state of the nation. A new schedule for the movement will be announced next Friday, December 26.
The decision was shared during a press conference organized under the banner of the "Bangladesh Government Employees' Demand Realization Unity Council" (Bangladesh Sorkari Kormochari Dabi Aday Oikya Parishad) at the National Press Club on Saturday (December 20).
While a roadmap for a new movement was expected at the conference, the session was instead dedicated to prayers and a munajat (supplication) seeking the eternal peace of the soul of the late Osman Hadi.
Leaders of the Unity Council reiterated their seven-point demand, stating that a gazette notification—including recommendations for a discrimination-free 9th Pay Scale—must be published by December 31. They warned that if no visible initiative is taken by the government to implement the pay scale by January 1, they will be forced to launch "tougher programs."
Paying tribute to Shahid Osman Hadi, speakers noted that he was a lifelong advocate against discrimination. They emphasized that government employees would continue their struggle to eliminate workplace disparities following the path he laid out.
The press conference was presided over by the Unity Council’s Chief Coordinator, Wares Ali, and attended by the organization's top-tier leadership.
