In a significant development for the labor market, Oman’s Minister of Labor, Dr. Mahad bin Said bin Ali Ba'owain, has announced that work visas for Bangladeshi nationals will be reinstated shortly.
The announcement came during a sideline meeting with Bangladesh’s Law Adviser, Dr. Asif Nazrul, at the recent Global Labor Market Conference. The Minister expressed optimism that the visa processing will reopen within the next two months.
Shift from Suspension to Regularization
The Minister explained that the temporary suspension of new work visas for unskilled and semi-skilled workers, in place since 2023, was a strategic move to focus on regularizing the status of existing undocumented and irregular expatriate workers. He confirmed that this suspension is now under formal review.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties and improving the quality of labor migration:
Rigorous pre-departure training covering host-country language, culture, and laws.
Future Cooperation
Dr. Nazrul called for the next session of the Joint Technical Committee (JTC) to be held in Muscat during the first half of this year. He also invited the Omani Labor Minister to sign the finalized Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing labor cooperation and bilateral relations.
This move is expected to unlock a wealth of new employment opportunities for Bangladeshi expatriates and further solidify the economic partnership between the two nations.
