Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A.M.M. Nasir Uddin has announced that all preparations for the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the referendum have been completed. He assured that the electoral process will be free, fair, neutral, and credible.
The CEC made these remarks on Wednesday (February 11) during a briefing for local and foreign journalists and observers at the Hotel InterContinental in the capital.
Comprehensive Preparations
The CEC stated that a coordinated and multi-dimensional approach has been taken for the upcoming election. Key highlights include:
Legal Reforms: Amendments to election laws and regulations have been made to strengthen transparency and accountability.
Institutional Capacity: Efforts to build trust through dialogues with political parties and civil society.
Voter List Update: Approximately 4.5 million new voters have been added (including 2.7 million women), bringing the total voter count to over 127 million. The United Nations and other development partners assisted in ensuring data accuracy.
New Features and Logistics
For the first time, postal balloting has been introduced for expatriate Bangladeshis, with about 800,000 overseas voters registered. Postal voting remains available for designated domestic categories as well.

Global and Local Monitoring
To ensure transparency, the Commission has opened the door to extensive observation:
International: Representatives from 45 countries and organizations, including approximately 330 international observers and over 160 international journalists.
Domestic: More than 45,000 observers from 81 registered local organizations and over 60,000 journalists are in the process of receiving accreditation.
The CEC emphasized that the media will play a crucial role in identifying any lapses, reaffirming that the Commission's top priority remains transparency.
