Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain, BNP Standing Committee member and Minister for Social Welfare, Women, and Children Affairs, has categorically stated that the government’s "Family Card" program is being implemented free of cost.

He warned that there is no scope for demanding money in exchange for these cards and that legal action will be taken against anyone attempting such fraud.

The Minister made these remarks during an emergency press conference held at his Dhanmondi residence on Tuesday evening (February 24).

Official Launch on March 10
Dr. Zahid announced that, following a Cabinet Committee decision, the program will be officially inaugurated on March 10, 2026.

  • Inauguration: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to formally launch the initiative.
  • Initial Phase: The program will first roll out in 14 sub-districts (upazilas) across Bangladesh.
  • Supervision: Coordination committees have been formed at the union, ward, and city corporation levels, with first-class officers overseeing the process to ensure transparency.

Direct Benefits for Women
The Minister emphasized that the Family Card is designed to make families financially self-reliant and empower women.

  • Recipient: The card will be issued specifically to the female head of each designated family.
  • Inclusivity: The program is open to all, regardless of religion, race, caste, or political affiliation.
  • No Intermediaries: Funds will be transferred directly from Bangladesh Bank to the recipient’s mobile number (via bKash or other legal channels).

Warning Against Fraud and Conspiracies
Dr. Zahid addressed reports of unscrupulous individuals demanding money for cards, even in areas where the program hasn't started yet.

Key points on transparency:

Integrated System: Data will be collected from the field and integrated into a software-based automated system to eliminate errors and corruption.

Four-Year Goal: The government aims to reach every family in the country within the next four years.

Public Vigilance: The Minister urged citizens to report anyone demanding money for the card to law enforcement, government officials, or the media.

The Minister concluded by stating that this program fulfills a major election pledge and called for public cooperation to thwart any conspiracies aimed at obstructing its implementation.
