Prime Minister Tarique Rahman officially inaugurated the month-long Amar Ekushe Book Fair 2026 on Thursday, centered around the theme "Multidimensional Bangladesh" (Bohumatrik Bangladesh).
The Prime Minister declared the fair open as the chief guest during a ceremony held at the Bangla Academy premises shortly after 3:00 PM. The annual cultural event, which honors the martyrs of the Language Movement, spans both the Bangla Academy grounds and Suhrawardy Udyan.
Highlights of the Opening Ceremony
During the event, the Prime Minister presented the Bangla Academy Literary Award 2025 to the winners, handing over honorary crests and certificates.
The ceremony was presided over by Professor Abul Quasem Fazlul Huq, President of the Academy, with Director General Professor Mohammad Azam delivering the welcome address. Other notable speakers included:
Fair Schedule and Participation
The fair will continue until March 15.
Weekdays: 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Holidays: 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
Note: Entry closes at 8:30 PM daily.
A total of 549 publishing houses are participating this year. The organizers have allocated 1,018 units, with 81 institutions located on the Bangla Academy premises and 468 in the Suhrawardy Udyan section. Additionally, 87 stalls have been dedicated to the Little Magazine Corner.
A "Zero Waste" Initiative
In a significant move toward environmental sustainability, organizers have declared this a "Zero Waste Book Fair." The premises will remain polythene and smoke-free. Participants have been urged to use eco-friendly, recyclable materials for both stalls and stages to minimize the event's carbon footprint.
