Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has canceled his scheduled visit to Bogura on March 10, where he was set to inaugurate the distribution of the government’s "Family Card" program.

Bogura Deputy Commissioner (DC) Toufiqur Rahman confirmed the cancellation on Monday night (March 2), noting that the program has been postponed and a new date will be announced later.

Avoidance of Election Code Issues
The primary reason for the cancellation is the upcoming by-election in the Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency. To maintain neutrality and adhere to electoral norms, the Prime Minister decided not to conduct official government programs in the area before the polls.

About the "Family Card" Program
The "Family Card" initiative is a key pledge from the BNP’s election manifesto. The pilot project was specifically designed to launch in Ward 3 of Shakharia Union in Bogura Sadar Upazila.

Key details of the program include:

  • Financial Assistance: Each cardholder family will receive a monthly allowance of 2,500 BDT.
  • Target Demographic: The program targets women from ultra-poor, poor, and lower-income households.
  • Registration: One woman per eligible family will be registered for the card.
  • Scale: After a four-month pilot phase, the government plans to expand the project to every upazila across the country.

Committees led by the Deputy Commissioner and the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) have already been formed to ensure the smooth implementation and selection of beneficiaries.
