On the occasion of Independence and National Day, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid their respects to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War at the National Memorial in Savar.

At approximately 6:00 AM on Thursday (March 26), both leaders honored the fallen heroes by placing floral wreaths.

Following the wreath-laying ceremony, the President and Prime Minister stood in solemn silence for a moment to show their profound respect for the memories of the 1971 martyrs.

A smartly turned-out contingent from the Army, Navy, and Air Force offered a state salute during the ceremony. Subsequently, the Prime Minister, accompanied by members of the Cabinet, paid further tributes.

Leaders of various other parties and organizations followed with their own floral offerings. Notably, opposition leaders, led by Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, also paid their respects to the heroic martyrs.

Following the formal ceremonies, the memorial was opened to the general public.

A public holiday is being observed today in honor of Independence Day.

Both President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have issued separate messages to mark the occasion.
