Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced on Tuesday that 27.5 million farmers will be issued "Farmer Cards" over the next five years, fulfilling a key pre-election pledge. The Prime Minister also highlighted that agricultural loans up to 10,000 BDT were waived during his first week in office, benefiting 1.2 million farmers.

The Prime Minister made these remarks following the inauguration of the Farmer Card distribution program on Tuesday afternoon.

Emphasizing the government’s commitment to the agrarian economy, the Prime Minister stated that initiatives would be taken to establish agriculture-related industries in farming regions to ensure better prices for produce.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Prime Minister traveled from Dhaka by road, arriving at the Shahid Maruf Stadium in Tangail around 11:30 AM. He officially launched the Farmer Card distribution and pre-piloting activities at the stadium at 12:30 PM.

During the event, the Prime Minister personally handed over Farmer Cards and saplings to 15 farmers. He subsequently inaugurated the program in nine other sub-districts (upazilas) via video conference.

The ceremony was presided over by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Livestock, Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid. Other speakers included the State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, Sultana Salahuddin Tuku, and the Prime Minister’s Advisor, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
