Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, the Speaker of the National Parliament, has characterized the granting of bail to former Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury as a "good decision."

He made these remarks while speaking to journalists after a meeting with local dignitaries at the Bhola Circuit House on Saturday afternoon (April 18).

Support for Judicial Independence
The Speaker emphasized that the judiciary is independent and surely analyzed all legal aspects before granting the bail.

"In my personal opinion, this is a good move. In a democratic state, it is our duty to respect every decision of the court, and I believe this legal process was completed correctly," he stated.

Political Stance and Coexistence
When asked about the current political climate, the Speaker noted his departure from active party politics:

Voluntary Resignation: He clarified that he has voluntarily resigned from all party positions and no longer involves himself in complex partisan matters.

Peaceful Coexistence: He expressed hope for peaceful coexistence among all political parties in Bangladesh, noting that mutual respect and a democratic environment are essential for the country's development.

Reflections on Democracy and the 2024 Uprising
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed reflected on the political landscape of the last two decades, stating that the people of Bangladesh have never accepted autocracy.

Awareness: He praised the political consciousness of the citizens, noting that despite twenty years of oppression, "disappearances," and "killings," the people remained resilient.

The 2024 Movement: He hailed the historic 2024 movement as a turning point that captured global attention and successfully re-established democracy and human rights.

Optimism for the Current Government
The Speaker expressed high hopes for the current administration under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

He remarked that the government's primary focus—economic development—is already being addressed through effective initiatives.

He concluded by calling for an environment of good governance where no individual, regardless of their political ideology, faces harassment.
