Bangladesh began receiving approximately 925 megawatts (MW) of electricity from India’s Adani Power plant on Monday evening (April 27), providing a much-needed boost to the national power supply.

Grid Synchronization
According to sources within the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), the second unit of the Adani plant successfully synchronized with the national grid at 7:47 PM on Monday. The unit is currently contributing 925 MW to the system.

BPDB Chairman, Engineer Md. Rezaul Karim, informed the media that the power supply is expected to increase gradually. He noted that this additional capacity is significantly enhancing overall production and will play a vital role in reducing load-shedding across the country.

Upcoming Capacity Boosts
BPDB officials further noted that more relief is on the horizon. Starting April 28, an additional 600 MW each is expected to flow into the national grid from SS Power and RNPL.

RNPL (Rural Power Company Limited - Norinco Intl Power Limited): A joint venture between Bangladesh’s Rural Power Company Limited (RPCL) and the Chinese state-owned firm Norinco, this facility is scheduled to begin 600 MW of production today.

Current Supply-Demand Gap
Recent BPDB data highlights the urgency of these additions. Last Saturday evening, the country’s peak electricity demand reached 16,900 MW, while maximum production—excluding the Adani plant’s contribution—stood at 14,712 MW. The influx of power from these new sources is aimed at bridging this deficit.
