Residents and industrial units across the Dhaka region are facing a significant gas shortage after a technical glitch forced one of the nation's two Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRUs) offline.

The outage has triggered a sharp decline in supply, cutting approximately 400 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) from the national grid.

Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company issued an emergency notice on Tuesday morning, warning of low gas pressure throughout its entire service network.

The supply shortfall is expected to hit consumers particularly hard in South Dhaka, Narayanganj, Sonargaon, Gazaria, and Meghna Ghat.

The utility company confirmed that the disruption was sudden but did not provide a definitive timeline for when the technical fault would be repaired or when full pressure would be restored.

Titas Gas officials expressed regret for the unexpected inconvenience caused to households and businesses during this period.

As Bangladesh relies heavily on its two FSRUs to process liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports, the failure of a single unit has created an immediate energy deficit.

This disruption underscores the vulnerability of the country’s gas infrastructure as it struggles to meet escalating daily energy demands.
