Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced that the government will provide assistance for the next three months to farmers who have suffered losses due to heavy rainfall.

He shared this information on Wednesday morning (April 29) while responding to a query from Kalim Uddin Ahmed, the Member of Parliament for the Sunamganj-5 constituency.

Drawing the Prime Minister's attention to a matter of urgent public importance, Kalim Uddin noted that continuous heavy rain has flooded the Haor (wetland) regions, including Sunamganj.

He described the immense hardship farmers are facing while attempting to harvest paddy and urged the Prime Minister to stand by those affected.

In response, the Prime Minister thanked Kalim Uddin and stated, "Based on weather reports three days ago, I had already directed the local administrations of three districts in the Haor region, including Sunamganj, to take necessary precautions in anticipation of the rainfall."

Describing the distress and losses of the farmers as deeply painful, the Prime Minister added, "Even before the start of this morning's parliamentary session, I spoke with the Minister of Disaster Management. I have instructed him to identify the farmers affected by the heavy rains in these three Haor districts, as well as parts of Mymensingh, and to provide them with support for the upcoming three months."
