Returning Officer Md. Moin Uddin Khan has announced that 49 candidates have been elected unopposed in the elections for the reserved women's seats of the 13th National Parliament.

He shared this information during a briefing held at the Election Commission (EC) building in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Wednesday afternoon (April 29).

Official Gazetting and Process
The Returning Officer stated that the official gazette for these 49 candidates will be published on Thursday (April 30). Wednesday was the deadline for the withdrawal of candidacy (from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM).

Since no candidate withdrew their nomination within the stipulated time, they have been cleared for election unopposed.

The EC Secretariat will handle the gazette publication containing the names and addresses of the unofficially elected members, which will then be forwarded to the Parliament Secretariat for the swearing-in ceremony.

Seat Distribution
Of the 49 candidates on the final list: BNP Alliance: 36 candidates; Jamaat-NCP & 11-Party Alliance: 12 candidates; Independent: 1 candidate.

Legal Complications
While there are 50 reserved seats in total, the result for one seat has been postponed due to ongoing legal complexities. A case regarding the candidacy for that specific seat is currently pending in the High Court.

Consequently, the Commission is proceeding with the primary election process by gazetting the 49 cleared names.

Reserved women's seats are typically filled through nominations from political parties based on their proportional representation in the National Parliament.
