District Commissioners (DCs) play a vital role as field-level representatives of the government, responsible for policy-making, implementing development programs, and coordinating various activities.

Every year, the DC Conference serves as a platform to discuss proposals from these officers and reach effective decisions regarding various ministries and departments.

Under the supervision of the Cabinet Division, the four-day DC Conference begins today in the presence of ministers and secretaries.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to inaugurate the conference at 10:30 AM this Sunday (May 3) at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.

Following the inauguration, Divisional Commissioners and DCs will participate in an open discussion with the Prime Minister.

At a press briefing held at the Secretariat on Saturday (May 2), it was announced that the conference will continue until May 6.

A total of 34 sessions will be held, during which 498 proposals will be discussed out of 1,729 initially submitted by the District Commissioners.

Key Proposals and Priorities
The health sector has seen the highest number of proposals this year. Key agenda items include:

• Ensuring the availability of anti-venom in hospitals.
• Providing at least one ambulance to every Upazila hospital.
• Bringing Qawmi Madrasas under a formal regulatory framework.
• Establishing an airport in Noakhali.
• Setting up "Fact-Checking Centers" at the district level to combat rumors and social media misinformation.

Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani stated that the conference would focus on fulfilling public expectations from the new government.

In addition to the scheduled sessions, DCs will meet with the President, the Speaker of the Parliament, and the Chief Justice.

Addressing a query regarding political neutrality, the Secretary remarked, "Merit is essential; one cannot succeed through party affiliation alone.

While individuals may have personal political views, it is unacceptable for partisan influence to affect official government duties."

It was also noted that 44% of the proposals from the previous interim government's conference have been implemented so far.

Conference Schedule
Day 1 (Sunday): Discussions on the PMO, Health, Education, and Law ministries, followed by a courtesy call on the President at Bangabhaban.

Day 2 (Monday): Discussions involving the Ministry of Finance and other departments, followed by a meeting with the Speaker at the National Parliament.

Day 3 (Tuesday): Sessions on the Armed Forces Division, Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, and the Election Commission. DCs will also meet the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court.

Day 4 (Wednesday): Final sessions on Home Affairs and Public Administration. The conference will conclude with a meeting and dinner hosted by the Prime Minister for the Bangladesh Administration Service Association.
