Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has asserted that individuals with autism spectrum disorder possess the fundamental right to live with full dignity, equal to that of any other citizen.

The Prime Minister made these remarks in a message issued on Tuesday, May 12, ahead of World Autism Awareness Day 2026, observed on Wednesday, May 13.

"To build a humane, inclusive society and ensure sustainable development, there is no alternative to bringing individuals with autism into the mainstream of society through proper care," the Prime Minister stated.

He noted that this year’s theme, "Autism is not a limitation; every life is valuable," is highly appropriate for the current times.

Welcoming the Ministry of Social Welfare’s initiative to observe the 19th World Autism Awareness Day, the Prime Minister extended his heartfelt greetings to children and adults with autism, their families, healthcare professionals, therapists, and organizations working in the field both in Bangladesh and across the globe.

Commitments to an Inclusive Bangladesh
Acknowledging that a significant number of people in Bangladesh face neurodevelopmental challenges, the Prime Minister reiterated the government's commitment to building a "discrimination-free, merit-based, and accountable" nation.

"The current government has embarked on its journey with a pledge to build a prosperous and humane Bangladesh," he said. He detailed several key commitments, including:

  • Establishing specialized healthcare units for those with special needs.
  • Providing educational scholarships and essential learning materials for students with disabilities.
  • Ensuring the effective implementation of laws pertaining to the rights of persons with disabilities.

Empowering Through Sports and Economy
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized that the government aims to create an environment where every individual can overcome limitations to fulfill their dreams.

He highlighted that specific steps have already been taken for those interested in sports, with a goal to increase participation in the Para-Olympics.

the Prime Minister concluded, wishing total success for the programs organized to mark the day.
