Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will simultaneously inaugurate a nationwide tree plantation campaign across more than 29,000 secondary-level educational institutions today, Monday (June 29), from the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre—in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

The Ministry of Education shared this information in a press release issued on Sunday (June 28).

According to the press release, this new greening initiative in the country’s educational arenas has been launched as part of the "One Child, One Tree" program.

The initiative aligns with the government's election manifesto goal of planting 250 million saplings over five years and engaging every child in tree plantation annually.

Under this framework, the Ministry of Education has planned to plant 50 million trees in schools, colleges, and madrasas across the country over the next five years.

The ministry further stated that from the main venue at the conference centre, the Prime Minister will officially launch the campaign simultaneously across 29,621 secondary-level educational institutions at 2:00 PM.

Among these institutions are 18,907 schools, 1,446 school-and-colleges, and 9,268 madrasas.

Although the program was originally scheduled for 10:00 AM on Monday, a Ministry of Education order on Sunday stated that it was rescheduled to 2:00 PM due to special reasons.

To achieve this goal, the ministry announced that a special climate awareness grant of 5,000 BDT is being provided to each educational institution annually. Under this year's program, every institution will plant one fruit-bearing tree, one timber tree, and one medicinal tree.

Arrangements have been made to broadcast the inaugural ceremony live on big screens at every educational institution across the country.

Local Ministers, Ministers of State, Deputy Ministers, Members of Parliament, local public representatives, dignitaries, teachers, students, and parents will be present at their respective institutions to participate directly in the plantation campaign.

The event will be fully participatory, allowing attendees at each institution to connect directly with the Prime Minister via video conference and share their thoughts.

The Ministry of Education has instructed all educational institutions nationwide to make the necessary preparations to celebrate the event beautifully.

On Monday, climate-themed banners and festoons will be displayed on every campus, and colorful rallies featuring teachers and students will be organized.

Meanwhile, the press release also noted that from the same stage, the Prime Minister will visit the "Startup, Science Project, and Innovation Idea Showcasing" exhibition organized by the Ministry of Education. He will inspect stalls featuring startups and science projects developed by young national-level innovators and distribute prizes to the best innovators.

To ensure the success of the event, Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Hoque Milan and the Prime Minister's Education Advisor Dr. Mahdi Amin inspected the main venue and preparatory activities at the conference centre on Sunday afternoon.
