NICAR Approves 3 New Upazilas and 1 New Police Station

The National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganization (NICAR) has approved the creation of three new upazilas and one police station in the country.

The three new upazilas are 'Fatikchhari North' in Chattogram, 'Bangra' in Cumilla, and 'Pagla' in Mymensingh. The newly approved police station is named 'Halda', which has been carved out of Chattogram's Hathazari Police Station.

The approvals were granted during NICAR's 121st meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Cabinet Division conference room in the Secretariat on Wednesday (July 1), according to the Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary, Hasan Shiplu.

He stated, "The upazilas and the police station were approved in the meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganization (NICAR), presided over by Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Additionally, a decision was made to include the Narayanganj and Gazipur district portions of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha's (RAJUK) Purbachal New Town project area under the jurisdiction of Dhaka district."

According to the NICAR proposal, the three new upazilas are: 'Fatikchhari North' upazila, formed with 6 unions of Fatikchhari upazila in Chattogram district; 'Bangra' upazila, by dividing Muradnagar upazila in Cumilla district; and 'Pagla' upazila, comprising 8 unions of Pagla police station under Gafargaon upazila in Mymensingh district.

Meanwhile, 'Halda Police Station' has been formed by dividing Chattogram's Hathazari Police Station.

The NICAR meeting, chaired by Tarique Rahman, was attended by Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salah Uddin Ahmed, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, Road Transport Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam, Housing Minister Zakaria Taher, Minister of State for Public Administration Abdul Bari, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar, and secretaries of the ministries concerned.
