The BNP Standing Committee has entrusted party chief and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman with the responsibility of selecting the candidate for the post of president.

This responsibility was vested in Tarique Rahman during a meeting of the party's Standing Committee held on Saturday night (August 1) at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan, Dhaka.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir informed journalists of the decision after the meeting. The meeting, presided over by Tarique Rahman, lasted for more than an hour and a half.

Those present at the meeting included BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Nazrul Islam Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Selima Rahman, and Dr. A. Z. M. Zahid Hossain.
