HSIA's 3rd terminal not likely operational soon

The third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) is not going to operation soon. After completing 97 percent of the work in four and a half years. Uncertainty has been created due to the non-signing of the public-private partnership (PPP) agreement on operating costs.
The three-storey terminal of 2,30,000 square meters was built at the airport to handle the pressure of air passengers and ensure international standard services. There are 54 counters including baggage handling system, arrival lounge, duty free shop, boarding bridge.
In addition, there are separate lounges for transit passengers, 3,650 square meters area for VIPs, 128 immigration counters for departure and arrival. The cost of the third terminal project is Tk 21,398 crore.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina partially inaugurated the third terminal in October, 2024. It was then said that the terminal would be fully operational after completing all the works within a year. However, the authorities are uncertain about the full launch even though all the work was completed in October this year.

Robbers fear in capital, city dwellers in insecurity
Due to the quota reform movement in government jobs, all police stations of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) are currently empty. Many called the emergency number provided by the army and BGB in the incident of robbery.
According to police sources, there have been attacks, vandalism and looting in more than four hundred police stations across the country including Dhaka. Considering the situation, no one feels safe in the police station or their respective offices. Some are hiding in the homes of relatives. Army personnel rescued policemen from some police stations.
After the resignation of the Sheikh Hasina government, in the absence of the police, there has been a fear of robberies in the last three nights. As a result, the residents are guarding by forming teams in different areas of the capital. Locals came to the field to resist the robbers with sticks and bamboo at every turn.
Meanwhile, on August 7, ISPR informed that, in the current situation, members of the Bangladesh Army are deployed to provide overall security to public property and important government facilities. In case of any acts of vandalism, mayhem or death threats are requested to contact the nearest army camp.
In this regard, it has been asked to refrain from misleading the army by providing false information and fearing rumours. City residents have been asked to call the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Dhaka to prevent any acts of robbery or harm to public safety.

Incidentally, after Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country on August 5, the situation in the country became critical. As criminals are killing common people and policemen, we have decided that the police station is an important establishment, and policemen should be saved. They are public servants, they should be given a chance to reform again. Apart from this, there are hundreds of families and policemen at the Tejgaon police station. Confirming the matter, Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) manager ATM Abduzzah said that when the water level in Kaptai Lake rises to 108 feet MSL, the situation will be dangerous. The water rose to 107.63 feet till 2 o'clock on Saturday. So water is expected to rise to 108 feet by evening. In this situation, 6 inches of 16 gates will decide to be released.
Meanwhile, the waters of the Kaptai Lake are reaching near the coastline, flooding the low-lying areas adjacent to the lake. It is expected that many houses near the Kaptai lake will be damaged if the water from the Kaptai dam is not released soon. In this situation, it was decided to open the 16 gates of the dam.

It is stated in the public notice that because of the recent situation, the Hon'ble Chief Justice of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance will proceed from 30th August 2024 (Friday) until further orders.
All kinds of meetings, gatherings, processions, processions, demonstrations, etc are prohibited on the roads adjacent to the government residence, Justice Bhaban, Judges Complex, main gate of Bangladesh Supreme Court, and Matsya Bhaban.
