Ex-MP Shah-E-Alam's Remand Granted

After being beaten and given to the police station, the court granted the remand of former MP Shah-E-Alam Talukder. He was a Member of Parliament of Barishal-2 (Banaripara-Ujirpur) Constituency and President of the Central Committee of Chhatra League.
On Sunday (September 15) afternoon, the judge of Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court granted his 3-day remand. The judge gave this verdict based on a case lodged over the murder of college student Md Naimur Rahman in the capital's Gulshan area during the recent anti-discrimination student movement.
On Saturday night Shah-e-Alam was beaten and handed over to Dhaka's Gulshan police station. Gulshan Division Deputy Police Commissioner Riazul Haque confirmed the matter and told the media that Shah-E-Alam has been kept in custody. It is being investigated whether there is a case against him.
Earlier, Syed Atikur Rahman, the son of a brave freedom fighter, filed a case against Shah-E-Alam Talukder in the court for assault and attempted murder for extortion. Shah-E-Alam along with his three brothers and 14 activists have been accused in the case.
On September 11, Barisal Senior Judicial Magistrate Sharmin Sultana Sumi ordered the CID to investigate the complaint and submit the investigation report.

Flood situation worsens in Feni, 2 lakhs stuck in water
The flood situation in Feni, Cumilla, and Noakhali has worsened due to relentless rainfall and a rise in the water level of rivers, leaving over 1.5 million people stranded.
On Wednesday (August 21) afternoon, Muhuri river water was seen flowing 86 cm above the danger line.
According to the Water Development Board and local sources, Feni, Parshuram, Fulgazi, and Chhagalnaiya upazilas are severely affected.

Kaptai Dam to be opened at 10 pm
It has been decided to open the 16 spillway gates of the Karnaphuli hydropower station due to the increase in the water of the Kaptai lake.
Gates will open at 10 pm on Saturday (August 24). For this, an urgent warning has been given to the Bhati region.
Confirming the matter, Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) manager ATM Abduzzah said that when the water level in Kaptai Lake rises to 108 feet MSL, the situation will be dangerous. The water rose to 107.63 feet till 2 o'clock on Saturday. So water is expected to rise to 108 feet by evening. In this situation, 6 inches of 16 gates will decide to be released.
Meanwhile, the waters of the Kaptai Lake are reaching near the coastline, flooding the low-lying areas adjacent to the lake. It is expected that many houses near the Kaptai lake will be damaged if the water from the Kaptai dam is not released soon. In this situation, it was decided to open the 16 gates of the dam.
It should be noted that the production of the country's only water power plant has also increased due to the increase of Kaptai lake water. At present, five units are generating a maximum of 219 megawatts of electricity per day.
DMP banned public gatherings several places in Dhaka
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a public notice banning all kinds of meetings, gatherings, marches, processions, demonstrations, etc in the capital on the roads adjacent to the Chief Justice's official residence, Justice Bhaban, Judges Complex, main gate of Bangladesh Supreme Court and Matsya Bhaban.
DMP Commissioner Mainul Hasan informed this in a public notice on Thursday (August 29).
It is stated in the public notice that because of the recent situation, the Hon'ble Chief Justice of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance will proceed from 30th August 2024 (Friday) until further orders.
All kinds of meetings, gatherings, processions, processions, demonstrations, etc are prohibited on the roads adjacent to the government residence, Justice Bhaban, Judges Complex, main gate of Bangladesh Supreme Court, and Matsya Bhaban.

According to Rumor Scan, the much-discussed video of the pile of dead bodies happened in the area adjacent to Ashulia police station. This incident happened on the afternoon of August 5. Besides, two people living around the scene claimed that the poster seen on the wall of the video is Abul Hossain Bhuiyan, candidate for ward number 7 of Dhamsona Union of Ashulia.

Autorickshaw Driver Killed in Geneva Camp Shooting
An autorickshaw driver named Sonu (32) was shot and killed during a clash between local residents and drug dealers at the Geneva camp in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. The incident occurred around 8:30 AM on Wednesday (September 4).
Sonu, a resident of Sector 5 in the Geneva camp, was passing by Kamal Biryani shop when gunfire erupted. His cousin, Sajeev, reported that the clash involved 40 to 50 individuals, including notorious drug dealers Bunia Sohel, Rana, Tuntun, and Babu. During the altercation, Bunia Sohel allegedly fired a shotgun, fatally wounding Sonu. He was rushed to the emergency department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors pronounced him dead.
Sajeev expressed shock over the sudden escalation, noting that fights involving sharp weapons and sticks are common in the camp, but the use of firearms was unexpected. He questioned how such weapons had made their way into the camp, highlighting the brazen nature of the attack.
